We are delighted to announce the successful doctoral defences of Fatemeh (Mahsa) Fazlali and Rafael Lazar, who both defended their PhD theses in March 2025.
Their defences mark the successful conclusion of the LIGHTCAP project—a European research initiative focused on understanding the non-image-forming (NIF) effects of light on human health and behavior.
Fatemeh Fazlali defended her thesis titled:
“Non-Image-Forming Effects of Light on Human Neuroendocrine and Neurobehavioural Responses in Normal and Red-Green Colour Vision”
Rafael Lazar defended his thesis titled:
“Tools and Insights into Non-Visual Effects of Light in Adolescence and Ageing”
Both projects provide critical contributions to our understanding of how light influences human physiology beyond vision—from hormonal regulation to behavioral responses—and open new doors for future applications in health, architecture, and beyond.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing the impact of their work unfold. Congratulations, Mahsa and Rafael!
